Songcatchers' Performance in New Rochelle's ArtsFest
On Saturday, September 27, 2014, Songcatchers Youth Choir came together with the Garito Manor Chorus and Hugh A. Doyle Senior Citizens Center Singers to present a delightful musical concert as part of New Rochelle's ArtsFest, an annual weekend celebration of the arts in New Rochelle.
The intergenerational concert delighted all as the groups sang songs by themselves and with each other. In recognition of the 200th Anniversary of the writing of the "Star Spangled Banner", the concert opened with all singing the national anthem. Other songs performed are "Why Can't I Be a Teenager in Love" and other "rock and roll oldies" of the 1950s; love songs like "Love Changes Everything" from Aspects of Love; peace songs like "This Is My Wish", and a fun patriotic interactive sing-a-long with songs such as "Sidewalks of New York" and "This Land is Your Land". The concert ended with a stirring rendition of "God Bless America".
Sr. Beth Dowd's reflections on the concert: "We welcomed all who came, but one of the beauties of the day was that we were able to bring the ArtsFest to the residents Garito Manor, many of whom who would have not been able to participate in the ArtsFest otherwise."
